Update on the Planned Closure of Tennyson’s Children’s Centre

Update on the Planned Closure of

Tennyson’s Sure Start Children’s Centre, Haslemere.

We are saddened, but not surprised, by the Surrey County Council decision to move ahead with the Children’s Centre closure programme. Local people with long memories will recall that the children’s centre in Haslemere had a faltering start, but despite this, over the intervening years, the Tennyson’s Children’s Centre has established itself as a place for families to go for support, advice & guidance. The children’s centre staff have worked tirelessly to support families in our reach area.

However, the decision is made and we will now focus on working with Surrey County Council officers to ensure our most vulnerable families transition seamlessly to the new arrangements. We will also be working to ensure that any gaps in local service provision following the closure of the children’s centre will not impact our most vulnerable local families. We will be creating a document to signpost families to other local services. Families will need to know (amongst other things) how they can: access Healthy Start vitamins, emergency food vouchers and food bank vouchers; how to apply for two year nursery funding (FEET) and find a local nursery; how to find a parenting course, how to access breastfeeding support and a whole host of other things…

If you are worried about how the children’s centre closure might affect you and your family, please tell us. We might not have all the answers now, but we promise that we will work on finding an acceptable solution for you.

In the meantime, please continue to use the children’s centre as you do now. We will keep you informed on timescales as and when we hear any more information. If you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Rachel Gardiner

Children’s Centre Manager
